I’d be lying if I didn’t say that back-to-school is a little bittersweet for me. I lose my neighborhood playmates and (mostly welcomed) entertainment. After all, I’ve inherited a lot of tennis balls and pool toys over the summer (but if my mom asks, they are mine!).

My point is that your furry friends will likely need time to adjust to the back-to-school season as well. I’ve included some tips below to help your pups get back to a routine without feeling left out.

  1. Back-to-School Supplies
Your pup can enter the new season in style, too! A new collar, a backpack carrier or even a cold-weather vest for you brave souls preparing for another winter. P.S: If you’re looking for dog carriers, check out Etsy for a huge variety. We love this one from Etsy shop Muffin and Berry.
  2. A Visit to the Groomer
The kids have a fresh, new cut so why not give your pup an upgrade? A fresh new furry ‘do for the school year will have your pup strutting his stuff each and every walk. After all, Pongo and Perdita met on a walk to the park; a dog can dream, right?!
  3. Let’s Make New Friends
New school year, new friends! But where can your pup go to find some pals? Doggy daycare is a great place to form friendships. The dog park is also the perfect location for unexpected playdates. If you find a pup pal, consider scheduling a weekly meet-up! Meetup.com also offers opportunities for dog groups in your area. Check online to see what’s available near you, or consider creating a new group!
  4. Play Outside
The kids get recess, we should, too! Get outside and get active as much as you can. Daily walks, trips to the dog park, weekend hiking, visits to the city; you get the idea. Your pup wants to be outside just like you, so why not bring him along on your adventures!
  5. First-Day Photo
Nothing says back-to-school like the first-day photo. Have your pup pose for a picture right along with the human kids! Maybe it’s the first day of doggy daycare, or the first day with his new haircut. Or maybe you just want to include your pup in the excitement of the first day back to school. We would love to see your dog’s first photos! Use the hashtag #MAXkatears on social media so we don’t miss it!

I can’t wait to see how you kick off the back-to-school season with your fur kids (and real kids too)!
