You know that saying, home is where your dog is? Yeah, well, it’s totally true! Whether they are pure bred or pure love, you can never go wrong with adding a dog to your life. Sadly, while several mutts await their forever homes in shelters, many pure-bred dogs easily find a home from birth. Now don’t get me wrong, I think all dogs deserve a loving and caring home. I also think you guys should make responsible decisions when looking for a new family member to ensure you find the right one for you. But, if you have it in your heart to bring a pup home from the shelter and love it deeply, I promise you won’t regret it!

The doggone truth is mixed breed dogs have tons of great qualities and ownership benefits. For example, who really wants to teach a dog how to do their business? Some shelter dogs may need a little refresher, but a large majority are totally potty-trained already, which is a big plus for you AND your carpet. Am I right?

And if that’s not enough to convince you, did you know that many of the pets living in shelters are microchipped upon entry? You can check that off your long list of doggy-to-dos and rest assured that when you bring your new furry friend home, they’re safe! (Don’t forget to register the microchip in a searchable database.)

Lastly, many mixed breed dogs can have two, three or even four different types of dogs that make up their DNA. So, what does that mean? Not only will you have a truly unique dog, you’ll have one with a TON of great qualities from a TON of different breeds. Pretty sweet, huh?

Look human, I’m not going to go on and on about the many benefits of picking a mutt as your next pet because let’s be honest, that list could go on for days. All I’m saying is when you consider adding a new addition to your home, don’t forget to think about the millions of pets living in shelters. Some may come with a damaged past, but YOU can be the one to nurse them back to a happy, healthy life and that’s a really cool thing!
