Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday all rescue dogs… Happy Birthday to you! The North Shore Animal League declared Aug 1 as DOGust, the universal birthday of shelter dogs everywhere. And, since I LOVE any excuse to celebrate, I figured I’m the perfect pup to give you humans some recommendations on how to throw a party for your pet this August!

#1: TREATS, TREATS, AND DID I MENTION TREATS?!

From pupcakes to homemade doggie ice cream, treats are an incr-edible way to celebrate another year around the sun, full of fun! My mom finds tons of easy recipes for dog owners on Pinterest, but if you’re not the DIY type, try calling your local bakery to see if they have any dog-safe options.

#2: ADORABLE DECORATIONS

Ain’t no pawty like a doggie pawty! Ballons, streamers and everything in between will surely get your four-legged guests in the mood to boogie! Pro-tip: Mom uses my everyday treats and toys as a cheap and easy way to decorate the house.

#3: FUN PARTY GAMES

No party is complete without party games! Pin the tail on the puppy and toss me a bone (cornhole) are a few fun games you humans will enjoy. As for us pups, we will be satisfied with a couple nice, long games of fetch! Easy peasy, right?

#4: THE PAWFECT PRESENT

Stuffing filled toys, tasty bones or a new bag of treats – you can never go wrong with a small gift for your pet. Sniff around throughout the year to get the right idea of what gift will really get their tail wagging on their special day. I’m pawsitive it will be the icing on top of a wonderful birthday for your rescue pup!
